Music & Us
This summer, I got the great privilege to travel to Brazil. I stayed there for 2 months with my girlfriend, and played basketball with a professional team there. Having spent time there, I learned much about the culture, the language, the music, food, and other traditions they have. In this blog i will talk about Brazilian funk, but also some other music that has caught my attention.
To begin, many of you have heard of Brazilian funk music. Especially on tik tok, instagram or at any party. Brazilian funk is very very common in brazil, at parties, in sports, around your friends, and especially in tik tok and social media. One of the most famous songs, and most played, is "escondidinho" by MC roger. The literal translation is a pie, with a hidden ingredient inside of it. But in this case, the translation means something like " hidden" or "out of sight". It uses this theme to talk about a hidden or secretive romantic relationship. (modern, South America)
Next, we'll be going to London, England. One of the artists I enjoy listening to is Dave. I like the British accents, as well as the flow and rhythm dave has. Whenever I'm tired of listening to my favorite music and artists in the United states, I always turn on Dave. I attached one of my favorite songs below. (modern, Europe)
For our last modern music we'll go to Australia. Funny story, my old roommate was Australian and all he listened to was Rave. He was from northern Australia, and he loved fisher. Fisher isn't necessarily a singer, but he sure is a DJ. And I bet majority of people have listened to him, or even began to listen to rave because of fisher. I attached fisher's most popular song, loosing it. (modern, Australian)
Lastly, I went and looked up Eithiopian culture and found some cool things. I found something called the "tizita". The Tizita is one of the most iconic and traditional Ethiopian music styles, often referred to as the Ethiopian blues. (traditional, Africa)
I hope you enjoyed some of the artists, and music here!
Great job Kyle! I have heard about both Fisher and Dave before and both of them are very popular in Europe. I can tell you have a good music taste in my opinion since Starlight is my favorite song of his.
ReplyDeleteHi Kyle! I really enjoyed listening to these picks, especially since we didn't cover any electronic music in class. My favorite would have to be Sebebe – the vocals sounded very familiar to the female artists my parents listen to, but it was interesting to see how different tizita is from American blues.
ReplyDeleteI also love Brazilian funk and included it in my post as well! It is definitely different and not like anything I have heard before. However, ever since I was introduced to it, I cannot stop going back to it. It is so cool to get a glimpse of what is popular currently in other countries.
